Michelle Newell has 30+ years of demonstrated leadership and business expertise in both the public and private sectors. While in the private sector, she was appointed one of the youngest female officers of a Fortune 500 insurance company. In her subsequent career in public service, she held the position of Assistant Insurance Commissioner for the 4th largest state in the country. She prides herself on being a life-long learner and has a passion for developing people and teams. Focusing her career on integrity and consistently giving more than expected, she has had the good fortune to work with industry leaders and mentors. She has spent her career building consensus and bringing divergent parties to agreement and has been instrumental in helping people connect with their potential. Michelle is a sought after speaker for insurance industry events, has testified before the legislature and designs and teaches continuing education courses. Serving on advisory committees and boards of directors has given her an opportunity to mentor executives and provide unique educational experiences. Private sector – A leader as Vice President of American Guaranty Fund Group, Inc.,  management company for the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association (FIGA) and Florida Workers’ Compensation Insurance Guaranty Association (FWCIGA), she was instrumental in managing the largest property and casualty insolvency experienced by the State of Florida. She implemented a strategic plan and technology initiatives that facilitated the consolidation of the guaranty fund offices resulting in a recurring budget savings of over $1 million per year.  She served on the Education Committee of the National Conference of Insurance Guaranty Funds (NCIGF) and taught continuing education programs for insurance agents and adjusters.

Public Service – A visionary for 10 years with the Florida Department of Insurance and the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) managing company regulation functions including insurer solvency, policy forms and rates, market investigations and company admissions.  As Assistant Insurance Commissioner, she worked with staff to bring perspective and balance to the regulatory framework and the real world challenges of a business. Michelle participated in public policy development at both the state and national levels lobbying for balanced regulation.  She served as the chair of numerous National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) task forces and working groups, leading to the development of national insurance regulation standards and served as an instructor for several NAIC educational programs.

Insurance Company - 14-years of progressively responsible positions with American General Life Insurance Company of New York during an aggressive period of acquisitions and mergers. She was the youngest female officer named in company history as Director of Accounting Services where she was responsible for harmonizing the home office administrative protocols with the dynamics of the field force.
